Business forums

The business forums held in Azerbaijan and Lithuania have made a very important contribution to the development of economic relations between the two countries. A total of 8 forums have been held between Lithuania and Azerbaijan up to date.

The successive business forums triggered further enhancement of the economic partnership in the field of trade and investments between the two countries, which still continues to grow. The fact that the Azerbaijani and Lithuanian businessmen know each other closely and discuss their proposals as partners, contributes significantly to further development of mutual relations between the two countries.

1st Business Forum (June 9, 2006, Baku, Azerbaijan )

On June 9, 2006, an Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum was held in Baku. The President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the President of Lithuania Mr. Valdas Adamkus attended the forum as well. The economic growth of Azerbaijan and Lithuania was discussed in the event, while the need to build and expand economic ties in various fields of mutual interest was also emphasized.

2nd Business Forum (September 13, 2007, Vilnius, Lithuania)

On September 13, 2007, 2nd Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum was hosted by Vilnius. The President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and the President of Lithuania Mr. Valdas Adamkus also joined the event. About 50 Azerbaijani and some 100 Lithuanian representatives of businesses were in attendance. The organizers of the forum included Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan and the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists.

3nd Business Forum (April 22, 2008, Baku, Azerbaijan)

On April 22, 2008, another Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum was held. The event discussed the 17 million USD rise in the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Lithuania resulting from the economic ties of the two countries and it was emphasized that these figures were by 3 times bigger compared to those of 2006.

4th Business Forum (April 7, 2009, Baku, Azerbaijan)

On April 7, 2009, Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum was organized by Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and Lithuania’s International Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan.

Along with the state officials of Lithuania, about 20 Lithuanian and some 30 Azerbaijani entrepreneurs engaged in processing of agricultural products, transport, engineering, tourism, construction and other sectors joined the event held in the frames of official visit of the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas  to Azerbaijan.

5th business forum (February 9, 2011,  Baku, Azerbaijan )

On February 9, 2011, Baku hosted another Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum within the framework of the official visit of the Speaker of Lithuanian Seimas, Irena Degutiene. Along with officials, over 20 Lithuanian and some 60 Azerbaijani entrepreneurs engaged in agriculture, food industry, power engineering, telecommunications, construction, education and other sectors attended the event.

Memorandums of Understanding on Cooperation were signed between Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists and National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic; Vilnius University and the Cybernetics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan; and “INTA” company of Lithuania and “Kiber LTD” company of Azerbaijan.

6th business forum (March 15-17, 2012, Vilnius, Lithuania)

With the view to exchange experience on establishment of industrial parks and economic zones in Lithuania, a delegation of Azerbaijani businessmen were on visit to Lithuania on March 15 to 17, 2012. Within the framework of the visit, the delegation took part in the 6th Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum organized by Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO), Invest Lithuania and Enterprise Lithuania. Investment opportunities of Lithuania and Azerbaijan were presented in the forum.

7th business forum (April 9, 2013, Baku, Azerbaijan)

On April 9, 2013, Baku hosted another Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum organized by Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius and the Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev attended the business forum. “Lithuanian companies are successfully engaged in textile and food industry, information technologies and they are interested in Azerbaijani market. The successful operation of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between the two countries has created a sound foundation for expansion of ties in industry, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, information technologies, healthcare and culture,” said the Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.

Along with officials, entrepreneurs engaged in education, construction, finance, ICT, renewable energy, environmental protection, water treatment, automobile transportation, logistics, sales of automobile parts and other sectors attended the event.

8th business forum (October 22, 2014, Shamkir, Azerbaijan)

On the 22 of October the eighth Azerbaijani-Lithuanian business forum was held attended by about 70 businessmen from both sides.

During the event, Fazil Mammadov talked about the investment climate in Azerbaijan and its macroeconomic stability and economic development. He also encouraged Lithuanian businessmen to cooperate with Azerbaijani counterparts. In his turn, Linas Linkevicius noted that such forums had turned into a tradition over the past years. "Despite the fact that there is a long distance between Azerbaijan and Lithuania from the geographic point of view, this does not prevent closer cooperation and signing of new partnership agreements is an indication of the parties' interest in mutual investment," he said. 

The forum was also marked with presentation of the participants, as well as Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Fund. The event ended with bilateral meetings.
